The Extracurricular Being

Welcome to The Extracurricular Being blog.  Thank you for visiting this site.

The main purpose of this blog is to combat academic elitism.  And by doing so, this blog will tackle a wide range of topics like (but not limited to):

  • “Undergraduate rights” (i.e. asserting the right of college dropouts for continuing education, employment, and freedom from discriminative stereotyping)
  • Equal opportunity employment regardless of the applicants’ school
  • Needed reforms in the educational system
  • Study-life balance issues (e.g. unreasonably heavy homework load, abolition of social events in some schools like prom night, etc.)
  • Alternative education avenues like distance learning
Also, this blog will dissect academic excellence down to its amoral dictum, and alternatively will promote educational excellence.  The difference between the two ethical frameworks of learning will be discussed thoroughly in the blog.

The blog promotes neither a culture of truancy nor a sentiment of hostility towards academic achievers.  Rather, the author of the blog agrees that the academic world is AN avenue of education, but not THE avenue of education.

Mark Twain once said, “Never let schooling interfere with your education.”  So as inspired by this view of Twain regarding education, this blog will be guided by the following dictum: learning beyond schooling and education over academics.

For the next following days, counter-academic essays will be posted in this blog, so check this site regularly.

Thank you for your time.

Cheers!
